Origin:
The cells are resistant to 8-azaguanine and are HAT sensitive. They can be used as fusion partners for producing hybridomas. The cells have been reported to be cholesterol auxotrophs due to a deficiency in 3-ketosteroid reductase activity. Tested and found negative for ectromelia virus (mousepox).

Cultures can be maintained by addition or replacement of fresh medium. Start new cultures at 4x10^5 viable cells/mL and subculture before the cell density reaches 2x10^6 cells/mL. Culture at 5% CO2, 37°C. Renew medium once every 3 to 4 days.
